Features: The English-Chinese Medical Vocabulary (ed) has been published since 1978, reprinted multiple times, and has distributed over 150,000 copies, holding considerable influence in China's medical and healthcare field. However, the book has been out for over 20 years, during which medical science has developed rapidly, research fields have expanded, and new disciplines, theories, concepts, and technologies have continuously emerged, with a large number of new terms urgently needing to be added. Additionally, many terms in the ed are no longer in use, some are improperly categorized, some translations are inaccurate, and some even contain spelling or explanatory errors, making it necessary to remove and correct them. Under the commission of the People's Medical Publishing House, we organized over 180 scholars and professors from clinical medicine, basic medicine, health prevention, pharmacology, and other disciplines to work together and overcome various difficulties, making significant revisions and additions to the book to meet the needs of medical and healthcare workers, as well as students and teachers of medical schools and translators. Based on the ed, we expanded the scope of vocabulary, extensively collected new terms emerging in recent years, primarily referencing the renowned American medical dictionary Dorland's Illustrated Medical Dictionary (28th ed), and selected many new terms from well-known journals and books in Western countries. We also took into account the translations of medical terms published by the National Commission for the Preservation of Scientific and Technical Terminology in China for unified naming. The book has undergone repeated review and editing by all editorial board members and standing editorial board members, cross-review by deputy editors, and final approval by the chief editor. The book's features include a large vocabulary and broad coverage, encompassing terminology from over 60 disciplines in medical and healthcare fields, with approximately 160,000 entries. Compared to the ed, the second edition of this vocabulary deletes about 5 obsolete terms and adds nearly 60,000 new terms. Nine appendices are included at the end of the book, such as acupoint names, Latin names of Chinese medicinal herbs, names of Chinese medicinal herbs, abbreviations of medical institutions, etc.
