Features: Although this collection is titled an annual selection, due to the publishing deadlines set by the publisher, the selected works are limited to literary translations published in China between October 2003 and October 2004. Due to the difficulties in collecting materials, the selected works are limited to translations published in various journals in mainland China and do not include those published in newspapers and magazines in Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau. The arrangement of the book is basically based on geographical order—Americas, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa, and Australia—and then roughly arranged in chronological order of publication. The so-called "world literature translations" in this book naturally do not include translations of Chinese works into foreign languages, nor do they include translations of ethnic literary works into foreign languages, nor do they include the Chinese translations of works by ethnic minorities within China. In fact, translations of Chinese literary works into foreign languages have also been published domestically. The "selected" literary translations in this book only select a small number of works that possess certain authority, representativeness, and readability, and "selected" is also relative. Of course, we have tried our best to select the best works in each genre. On the premise of the artistic quality of the works themselves, we have also taken into account the countries, ethnic groups, and languages of the world, as well as the balance of various genres. The authors and translators are secondary. However, this kind of consideration may only be a wish of a good teacher, because important works must be highlighted, and there is also an equal standard of artistic quality that guides us. Considering the length of the entire book, novels and multi-act plays cannot be fully included, and abridement is neither feasible nor practical, nor is it easy to
