Steel Structure. Volume 1, Fundamentals of Steel Structure

Author: Chen Shaofan
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2003-02-01
Features: This book has been significantly updated and expanded based on the second edition published in 1994 to meet the current development of steel structures and the teaching needs of undergraduate civil engineering programs in universities. The book is divided into two volumes. The first volume, Fundamentals of Steel Structures, focuses on explaining the basic properties of steel structures, including the performance of materials, members, connections, and joints, as well as the principles and methods for calculating load-bearing capacity. The structure has been changed from the previous chapter-by-chapter organization based on member types to one based on limit states. Section strength, stability of individual members, stability of members in the overall structure, brittle fracture, and fatigue are discussed in separate chapters as different aspects and levels of load-bearing limit states. A separate chapter is also dedicated to serviceability limit states. The content of this book is closely aligned with the newly revised Code for Design of Steel Structures GB50017—2003. In addition to serving as a textbook, it can also be used as a reference for engineering design and construction personnel in their work.
