Features: Compared to similar guidebooks, this book has the following characteristics:
1. Selective categorization, targeted approach. Based on years of teaching experience, the best way to memorize words is: after receiving a vocabulary list, first review all the words and highlight the key and difficult ones. These words generally have a high frequency in exams and require multi-angle focused memorization. The rest of the familiar words are handled generally, that is, to master the key words first and then review the basic vocabulary. According to this principle and in line with the latest teaching syllabus requirements, this book includes all the frequently tested and hard-to-remember words in the new syllabus, providing multi-angle focused explanations for each word. While the more basic and well-known words are only given key definitions and common collocations, which are listed at the end of the book for readers to memorize quickly; simple words learned in junior high school are no longer included. This avoids the flaw of general vocabulary guidebooks that provide superficial explanations for all words without highlighting the key points.
2. High-frequency words, focused analysis. This book provides detailed analysis and interpretation of vocabulary from multiple perspectives to help readers firmly grasp the words. Each entry generally contains the following items:
[Dual Definitions] The English definitions of words in this book are unique, using the if definition method of Collins Cobuild Essential English Dictionary (The Collins Cobuild Essential English Dictionary).
[Word Formation] An analysis of word formation is provided, including the root, prefix, suffix, and even etymology of most words, so that readers can not only remember the words but also expand their vocabulary easily by applying the learned word formation rules and guess the meaning.
[Collocations] In this section, the book avoids the common method of using sentences as examples and instead uses concise and effective common collocation phrases or short phrases to illustrate the different parts of speech and meanings of the words, reflecting the usage while saving readers' time and making it easier to memorize.
[Differences] The book summarizes synonyms or near-synonyms from the syllabus vocabulary list under the first occurring entry, explaining their similarities in general meaning and differences in specific meanings and usage in Chinese, with English examples provided;
[Past Exam Questions] In the past exam questions section, most questions from the CET-4 and CET-6 exams since 1989 that tested the vocabulary level of this book have been selected, allowing candidates to grasp the question patterns and of the corresponding vocabulary.
