Features: Traditionally, the past is history, and yesterday is history. But Isaac Asimov is different. His Foundation series tells the "history of the future," the "history of a distant future," and the "history of tomorrow!" Asimov, this "historian of the future," this "American Sima Qian," uses an "epic" brushstroke and the grand chapters of the Foundation series to narrate the thrilling stories from the "Galactic Empire," from Foundation (often referred to as "Foundation"), from the Second Foundation, and from that of the "Mule," presenting the "history of the future" to readers in a vivid and engaging manner.
World Science Fiction Master · Isaac Asimov · The Decline of the Galactic Empire
Isaac Asimov's science fiction always introduces refreshing and fantastical elements, becoming a model for later science fiction. The reason a master is a master lies in their ability to transform the ordinary into the extraordinary with a single stroke. His three great series—the Robot, the Empire, and the Foundation—each have their own unique charm. Even now that we are very familiar with his works, we still cannot help but admire his creativity back then.
The fate of the future galaxy depends on the decision of one person: Golan Trevize. He must make a choice between Foundation, the Second Foundation, and Gaia regarding who will lead the future of the galaxy: the new empire created by Foundation will guide the galaxy into an era of technological prosperity; the new empire guided by the Second Foundation will ensure eternal peace for humanity; and the Gaia-like galaxy based on Gaia will be a mental community where all humans will merge with everything else into a benevolent whole. Trevize makes his choice intuitively but cannot be sure if it is the right one. He doubts that there are even more powerful manipulative forces hidden in the universe.
Trevize believes that Earth holds the key to solving all mysteries because it is the birthplace of humanity. Strangely, all records of Earth in the galaxy have mysteriously disappeared. Determined to uncover the true Trevize, he drifts and searches once again through the perilous stars, seeking the secrets hidden in Earth two thousand years ago. Will Trevize change his decision?
