Calculus (Volume 1)

Author: School of Mathematics, Sichuan University
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2001-08-01
Features: The lecture notes of this book were used for 2 years at Sichuan University and is a relatively mature textbook. It inherits the advantages of traditional textbooks while also embodying the spirit of reform. The book has the following features:
1. It organically integrates the cultivation of mathematical literacy into the explanation of basic knowledge, highlighting the fundamental ideas and methods of calculus, enabling students to better understand the internal connections between different parts of the content and grasp the overall methodology of calculus.
2. Following the principle of gradual progression, it appropriately incorporates modern mathematical ideas into the textbook, promoting the integration of calculus with other mathematical courses and providing some "interfaces" for students to further study modern mathematics.
3. In terms of content selection, it considers the needs of subsequent courses while also emphasizing connections to practical applications, covering a broad scope and having wide applicability.
4. The exercises are divided into two categories (A and B), facilitating layered teaching. The book is published in two volumes. The main content of the first volume includes: functions and limits, derivatives and differentials, integral calculus of single-variable functions, applications and approximate calculations of definite integrals, and an appendix at the end of the book provides integral tables, answers, or hints for exercises. This book is suitable for undergraduate students of science and engineering majors as a calculus textbook.
