Tang Yin's sketches

Author: Tang Yin (Ming Dynasty)
Publisher:
Publication Date: 2005-01-01
Features: Tang Yin's Paintings and Drafts was published in the early years of the Republic of China and printed using lithography. The original book included an introduction written by Tang Yin himself. However, judging from the font and calligraphic skill, it is far removed from Tang Yin's style and is therefore considered unreliable. As a result, it has been removed. Tang Yin was one of the "Four Masters of Wumen" during the Ming Dynasty and was renowned as a literati and artist of the Jiangnan region. He excelled in calligraphy, landscape, flower-and-bird, and figure painting, exerting significant influence on both painting and calligraphy history. Many scholars from the Ming, Qing dynasties to the modern era have studied his works. This book is divided into two parts: Paintings and Drafts and Painting Theory. From a stylistic perspective, the paintings in this draft show strong traces of late Qing Dynasty artists, making it natural to debate whether they were painted by Tang Yin himself. Fortunately, the draft is accessible and easy to learn, making it an excellent teaching material for amateur art enthusiasts, middle-aged and elderly self-learners of art, and for self-cultivation in modern society, where the number of elderly individuals is increasing. It can also serve as a reference for those working in applied arts.
The Painting Theory section is divided into several parts, including Painting Instructions, Painting Intent, Painting Themes, Landscape Secrets, Painting Commentary, Painting Tips, The Six Methods and Three Grades, The Six Essentials and Six Strengths, The Three Faults, and The Twelve Taboos. Since the Painting Theory section is punctuated and written in colloquial language, making it easy to read, it has been retained to preserve the original book's style.
