The textbook used for this book is the People's Education Press's unified junior high school Chinese textbook, "Chinese," which was first used in the autumn of 2000.
Second, for each classical Chinese and poetry text in the textbook, there are five sections: "Small Knowledge," "Learning Focus," "Translation and Interpretation," "Analysis," and "Test Yourself." These sections help readers learn and self-assess. Each volume includes three sets of comprehensive self-assessment tests at the end. Both "Test Yourself" and the comprehensive self-assessment tests come with reference answers.
"Small Knowledge" introduces background and literary knowledge related to the text; "Learning Focus" highlights the key knowledge points that should be mastered for each text; "Translation and Interpretation" provides word-by-word explanations and sentence-by-sentence translations of the text; "Analysis" offers concise insights into the content, themes, and writing style of the text; "Test Yourself" and the comprehensive self-assessment tests allow readers to self-check their learning progress. The questions are closely tied to the text while also extending and applying the knowledge appropriately.
In the "Translation and Interpretation" section, the translation follows a vertical format, with the classical Chinese text at the top and the translation below, separated by a horizontal line. Annotations are added after each word in the original text, distinguished by parentheses. For single-character words, the annotations are provided directly within the parentheses without a word header. For words composed of two or more characters, the word header is first marked in the parentheses before the annotation.
Six, for word meanings, sentence patterns, character biographies, and allusions that are difficult to explain within the parentheses, additional footnotes are provided on the same page for clarification.
Seven, the omission of sentence components is common in classical Chinese texts. In this book, omissions in prose are marked with "omitted component" in parentheses without specifying which component is omitted to avoid excessive detail. Poems are not marked because they are highly condensed and, with many omissions that are impractical to indicate individually.
Eight, the new edition of the Chinese textbook has intentionally reduced and diluted grammar knowledge, focusing on cultivating abilities. Therefore, this book generally does not provide overly detailed grammatical analysis.
Nine, relevant images such as the handwriting, portraits, and book covers of the authors are appropriately included with each text for readers to appreciate.
