Features: Reading Free Fall made me think of the late Ming Dynasty, an era of hedonism and brilliance. The author tells us about the lives of media professionals, which are not very familiar to ordinary people. Life is elsewhere, but it is also here. A good novel, or a bestseller, must have a compelling core to attract readers. Free Fall does a great job of this. At the same time, as the author unfolds the tapestry of life around this core, the inner sorrow, helplessness, and reflection strike readers with a relaxed yet determined force. Based on this, I believe this book is excellent, and I am happy to recommend it to readers. — A Lai (Winner of the Mao Dun Literature Prize)
What moved me about Free Fall is its language. It seems carefree, yet it is actually orderly beneath the surface. It appears spontaneous, yet it is tightly controlled. Additionally, the author's slightly ironic wit and teasing make the entire novel read with an inner tension. In the author's hands, the reality of life enters our vision through a straightforward description. It was a tragic life, but due to the author's narrative wisdom, even mediocre or even decadent life becomes fascinating. This adds a profound and thought-provoking depth to the tragedy of life and humanity that the author reveals. — Wang Gan (Renowned Literary Critic and Editor)
This is a long novel reflecting the life trajectories of three college graduates after graduation. Wang Xiaole was once the head of the news department at West City . Together with his close friends, Jian Rui and Xiao Yimin, they were all seen as successful people by those around them. While investigating an imported obsolete equipment incident with a journalist's sensitivity, Wang Xiaole falls into an irresistible trap. Due to his classmates' schemes, he is tricked into stealing photos of him engaging in extramarital affairs. Meanwhile, his university lover, who had sworn eternal love, has already fallen for someone else, and he remains in the dark. When he finally discovers that it is Hu Gefei, whom he had been trying to launder money for, who has cheated on him, he teams up with a charming woman to swindle 5 million yuan and returns to her hometown with a top-tier escort. Just as he has completed the construction of a primary school in the mountain village with his own funds, the police track him down.
Jian Rui and Xiao Yimin, as Wang Xiaole's close friends, one is an art enthusiast who marries a wealthy woman to rise to fame but becomes a murderer after a love tragedy; the other is obsessed with the political arena but accidentally falls from grace when his prospects seem bright. In short, three seemingly smooth young men, when their lives plummet like free fall, an tragic ending becomes inevitable. In the end, some lose their integrity, and others ruin their reputation. The heavy topic revealed by this tragedy is deeply thought-provoking.
