Features: "The New Century Graduate Public English Textbook (Reading)" (edited by Gao Guizhen and Wang Huili, published by Shanghai Foreign Language Education Press) is a public English textbook designed for graduate students. Due to its high starting point, broad scope of knowledge, and most of the texts sourced from original English materials from the UK and the US, students from various universities found it challenging to use and learn. To help graduate students and English self-learners better study and understand this textbook, we have specially compiled its supplementary material——《Study Guide for The New Century Graduate Public English Textbook (Reading)》。 The entire guide is divided into two volumes, A and B, corresponding to the two volumes of the original textbook. This guide is organized according to the lessons of the original textbook, with each lesson consisting of the following four parts:
1. Learning Objectives: Highlights the key learning points of the unit.
2. Background Knowledge: Introduces the writing background of the text, the author's life, and summarizes the main ideas of the text.
3. Reference Translation: Translates all the texts and supplementary reading materials of each unit into Chinese. The translation focuses on accuracy while striving for fluency, readability, and ease of understanding, helping readers better grasp the original text.
4. Key Vocabulary: Explains the key vocabulary and phrases in the text in a step-by-step manner, combining depth, detail, and precision.
5. Text Annotations: Provides annotations in Chinese for some allusions, names, places, and typical grammatical and rhetorical phenomena that appear in the unit. The annotations aim to be clear, detailed, and selective in addressing difficult points.
6. Exercise Solutions: Offers appropriate answers for most exercises in the student workbook. For more open-ended exercises, such as writing, the answers provided are for reference only.
