Features: To meet the needs of tourism secondary vocational education, the Human Resources and Labor Education Department of the National Tourism Administration organized industry experts to compile this national tourism secondary vocational education textbook. Since its publication in 1994, the textbook has been widely welcomed by teachers and students and has played an important role in the development of China's tourism secondary vocational education. To date, it has become the earliest published and most widely used core textbook for tourism secondary vocational education. To further adapt to the development requirements of tourism programs, improve textbook quality, reflect the latest developments in the tourism industry and new achievements in tourism vocational education research, we have organized relevant experts to revise and supplement this textbook based on the academic planning and industry requirements for tourism vocational education from the Ministry of Education and the National Tourism Administration. This ensures the scientificity and advancement of the national core textbook, fully reflects the new spirit and requirements of national vocational education reform, and meets the talent needs of the tourism industry in the 21st century.
The revision includes the following aspects:
First, based on the curriculum settings, teaching syllabi, and teaching plans for tourism secondary vocational education from the Ministry of Education and the National Tourism Administration, combined with the requirements of the Ministry of Labor and Social Security for tourism vocational skill assessment standards, and incorporating the achievements and experiences of foreign vocational education, we have carefully studied the nature of each subject, scope of application, teaching focus, teaching methods, teaching hours, and assessment methods. The new edition better grasps the relationship between curriculum settings and textbook writing, integrating the specific requirements of the tourism industry for talent with the concrete writing of tourism secondary vocational education textbooks from the perspective of curriculum standards. This reflects both the targeted and practical nature of the textbooks in line with industry realities and their scientific and standardized nature, achieving an organic unity of learnability and teachability, fully reflecting the educational philosophy of modern vocational education textbooks.
Second, in the specific revision process, we organized relevant experts to compile and supplement new content on the recent development of the tourism industry, making the textbook system more complete and scientific.
Third, while maintaining the scientificity and authority of the original textbook, this revision pays special attention to the academic foundation of secondary vocational students and their future career requirements, emphasizing the relationship between teaching and learning, and learning and application. It increases the proportion of content on skills, practical responses, operational standards, and simulated training, ensuring that it aligns with both curriculum requirements and industry characteristics, as well as the national vocational skill standards.
Fourth, in terms of format arrangement, some content has been appropriately streamlined, either deleted or placed in appendices, to facilitate teachers' flexible use and help students prioritize key points.
Fifth, given the strong practical nature of the tourism discipline, this edition of the textbook pays special attention to supplementing case studies to enhance the role of case-based teaching. Finally, to facilitate teaching and learning, additional sections such as key learning points, case analysis, chapter summaries, and bilingual standardized service phrases have been added, aiming to help readers grasp the most useful information in the least amount of time.
