Features: The new syllabus for New College French (4) requires university French teachers to explore new approaches and methods in teaching that align with China's national conditions, suit Chinese students, and cater to various levels of instruction. Regardless of the methods used, it is essential to motivate students, encourage their initiative, and cultivate their ability to learn independently.
Introduction to New College French (4): The new syllabus revises the "Teaching Objectives" by updating the goal of university French teaching from "cultivating students' certain reading abilities, as well as preliminary listening, writing, speaking, and translation skills, enabling them to use French as a tool to obtain the necessary information and lay a solid foundation for further improvement in French proficiency" to "cultivating students' certain reading abilities, as well as preliminary listening, writing, speaking, and translation skills, enabling them to communicate simple information in French, enhance their cultural literacy, and lay a solid foundation for further improvement in French proficiency." To adapt to the new situation of reform and opening-up, the new syllabus introduces the requirements of "enabling students to communicate simple information in French" and "enhancing cultural literacy." This undoubtedly places higher demands on university French teaching. To achieve the above goals, the new syllabus proposes: "In textbook compilation, attention should be paid to selecting language materials beneficial to cultural development and materials on the national conditions of French-speaking countries."
