Features: Since China's entry into the WTO, its foreign exchanges have increased significantly. To meet the growing demand for high-level applied English talents in society, Higher Education Press has introduced and launched the "Graduate English Listening and Speaking Course (Import Edition)." The "Graduate English Listening and Speaking Course (Import Edition)" focuses on hot topics in social life, providing a wealth of vivid and practical listening and speaking materials. At the same time, it integrates nine commonly used listening and speaking skills and strategies into the learning and training process of each unit, and incorporates a large amount of sociocultural knowledge into the listening materials. The recordings of the listening materials are authentic and natural. The "Graduate English Listening and Speaking Course (Import Edition)" is a textbook centered on cultivating students' listening strategies and micro-skills. It emphasizes training in listening strategies and micro-skills while also developing students' speaking and writing abilities through extensive exercises. This course consists of two volumes. In each chapter, various exercises are first introduced to help students truly understand the significance and role of these micro-skills in improving listening ability. The first volume focuses on training in 7 micro-skills. The second volume not only further trains the 7 micro-skills in a spiral manner but also adds two more advanced micro-skills: scanning for background information and revising assumptions. It is worth noting that this textbook also pays attention to combining common and practical scenarios, with each chapter centered around a specific theme for listening training. These themes are broad and realistic, covering both daily life topics (such as supermarkets, hobbies, and travel) and subjects of great concern to students (such as career choices, personal dilemmas, interviews, and future careers). Since this textbook is designed for students learning English as a foreign language, it not only introduces foreign scenarios to help students understand the cultural customs of English-speaking countries but also guides them to compare and discuss in light of their own national realities. This not only gives students something to talk about but also creates a sense of familiarity. Another feature of this textbook is its rich variety of exercises, all centered on practice. Instead of theoretical explanations when cultivating micro-skills, the textbook uses a large number of exercises to help students master these skills through practice, achieving the effect of "learning by doing and mastering through practice." Therefore, it can be said that this is a textbook that focuses on listening skill training as its main thread, comprehensively developing students' overall English proficiency. This is fundamentally different from many of the listening-focused textbooks we currently use. The exercises come in various forms, including individual assignments, as well as interactive exercises for pairs and groups. Most exercises are open-ended, requiring students to actively provide answers, making the learning and practice process more student-centered.
