Gribble, an adventurous and nomadic young man, leaves his hometown alone and arrives at an island called Corumbo, where he embarks on a strange journey. The island imposes a height tax on tall people, prohibits the sun from spreading light and heat, allows voters to cast ballots for performers through lotteries, and gives high scores to underachievers. There are all kinds of oddities on the island. Gribble witnesses this series of chaos and discomfort and begins to ponder the underlying reasons. He realizes that the excessive power of the government and its arbitrary interference in economic activities are the root of the problem. This is the viewpoint expressed by the authors of this book: liberal economic theory. The book is written in a humorous style, with a thought-provoking story that uses vivid examples from daily life to guide people in thinking about the fundamental issues of economics.
