Features: During my participation in the media training programs at Columbia University's International Media Studies Program and Fudan University's School of Journalism, I and Ashley Esarey discovered that many professional terms and new vocabulary, arising from language differences and technological advancements, had become obstacles for Chinese media professionals in understanding various aspects of foreign media. In assisting Columbia University's International Media Studies Program with training senior executives from Shanghai Media Group, I and Ashley deeply felt the urgent need for such a dictionary among Chinese media professionals. Originally, we planned to find an English-language media dictionary, then contact the author or publisher to purchase translation rights. To our surprise, neither the highly developed media industries in the United States nor the United Kingdom had a book or dictionary that met our needs. What we thought would be a straightforward task became highly challenging, as none of the three lead editors had ever had experience or expertise in compiling dictionaries. We were not seasoned media professionals in the past, nor do we plan to pursue a career in media. Ignorance is bliss, and our generation is destined to do pioneering work that has never been done before. From newspapers to magazines, from television to radio, from advertising to public relations, planning to marketing, multimedia to cross-media, and analog to digital—whether from an academic perspective, commercial objectives, or personal work arrangements, we all felt overwhelmed when fully committed to this project. Fortunately, with the help of Professor Sun Zhe and the support of Professor Li Liangrong, we gradually gained more confidence. I would also like to extend my sincere gratitude to all the editorial committee members and editors. Your sincere cooperation and dreams have provided answers to what seemed like an insurmountable challenge. This dictionary is the result of the second collaboration between Sunnybud Consulting (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. and a major U.S. media company. Although we have strived for comprehensiveness, there may inevitably be omissions. We leave the opportunity for criticism and suggestions to our readers and hope to receive your correspondence at dictionary@sunnybud.com. As I conclude this, it marks the beginning of another mission. My colleagues at Sunnybud Consulting (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. and I look forward to more communication and collaboration with our readers.
