Building first-class disciplines is a long-term effort, in which supporting the improvement of educational quality with high-quality scientific research is particularly crucial. Based on institutional arrangements such as the generation, mobility, and motivation of managers, this book first categorizes managers into two types: official-type managers and entrepreneur-type managers. The book is divided into seven chapters:
Chapter 1 defines the connections and differences between paid managers and entrepreneurs, proposes the concept of entrepreneur-type managers, positions them as the target for the role transformation of official-type managers in China's state-owned enterprises (SOEs), and highlights the role of incentive systems as the fundamental driving force for this transformation.
Chapter 2 provides a brief review of various theoretical perspectives and literature on managerial behavior and incentives, while also establishing the research starting point of the book and identifying topics for further discussion.
Chapter 3 employs game theory as the primary analytical method, analyzing the negative correlation between contractual relationships and mobility to establish the theoretical model of managerial mobility and incentive types, which is the core of the book and the theoretical foundation supporting its analysis.
Chapter 4 takes the incentive system designs and implementations in Japanese and American enterprises as case studies to validate the conclusions and viewpoints presented in the previous chapter.
Chapter 5 examines and discusses the fundamental judgments regarding official managers in China's SOEs using the logic of institutions, behavior, and performance.
Chapter 6 proposes the basic steps and sequence of institutional changes required for the role transformation of managers, considering China's gradual reform experience.
Chapter 7 presents the conclusions of the book.
