Features: Xu Hui is a writer with a highly innovative spirit and awareness. Compared to some popular writers, Xu Hui's works "can only seek improvement in solitude," and he has been dubbed the "cold figure" in the literary world by critics and the media. A Love Without an End is the culmination of his four-year effort and multiple revisions. The original title of A Love Without an End was My Hometown in the Jianghuai Plains. While writing this novel, Xu Hui not only aimed to capture the geographical and cultural characteristics of the Jianghuai region but also sought to distill a distinct, unique, and profound spiritual essence from its enduring abundance of life.
The protagonist of the novel, Liu Kang, is an ordinary middle-aged man in the city. After graduating from university, he was assigned to work in a government agency and married Sang Xiaoyuan, a capable but emotionally distant government official, leading a typical urban life. His innate romantic nature makes him content yet dissatisfied with his current life. Just then, a chance encounter changes his fate.
The novel tells the story of an extramarital affair between a married couple through its magnificent and vivid language and a sweeping narrative. The pure and sincere love is heart-stirring, but the sudden and intense romance erupts fiercely, only to end abruptly and unexpectedly, leaving behind a deep sense of regret and confusion that lingers with time as the characters age.
The novel has an open structure and profound imagery, with particularly vivid portrayals of human nature. It leaves readers sighing in regret and savoring its lasting impact.
