Features: Borges, an Argentine poet, novelist, and translator, was born into a lawyer family of British descent in Buenos Aires. He attended high school in Geneva and studied at Cambridge University. He was proficient in multiple languages, including English, French, and German. He began writing poetry in his teenage years. In 1923, he published his first poetry collection, and in 1935, he published his first short story collection, which established his position in Argentine literature. From 1950 to 1953, he served as the president of the Argentine Writers' Association. In 1955, he became the director of the National Library and a professor of philosophy and literature at the University of Buenos Aires. On April 24, 1986, he married María Okabe, and on June 14, he passed away in Geneva. His favorite themes included the pursuit of the impossible, the satirical realization of human dreams, the various meanings of idealism, the chaos and futility of existence, the cyclical nature of time, and the failure of reason. According to his own words, Borges's success or failure would depend on his poetry. The most important award he received in his lifetime may have been the Formentor Prize, which has already and will forever serve as a powerful evidence for criticism or even denunciation of the Swedish Academy.
