Features: The viola is a wonderful instrument. Its deep tone is as warm as a mother's embrace, playing a vital role in both orchestral and chamber music performances. Since the 20th century, many renowned composers have written numerous solo works for this highly expressive instrument. On today's concert stages, the viola has increasingly demonstrated its charm and is gaining more popularity. Although both the viola and violin have a history of over 300 years, establishing an independent viola program in China's conservatories is a relatively recent development in just the past 40 years. It is a great pleasure to see the publication of A Collection of Famous Viola Works in China, compiled by my good friend and colleague, Professor Shen Xicai, and Professor Wu Fei. These pieces were collected, organized, and tested over a significant amount of time. They serve not only as a teaching material for learning the viola but also as performance repertoire for concerts. Through the dissemination of these works, I hope more people will come to love the viola and that more viola talent will be nurtured.
