Features: The selected writings in this book are divided into five units. Unit I collects his prose works, selected from his five collections—Traces, The Shadow of a Father's Last Words, You and I, Notes on a European Journey, Notes on London, and the foreign language works collected in The Complete Works of Zhu Ziqing, Volume IV. These constitute approximately one-third of the book. Readers will see that he is not only known for a few famous works. The second unit is also prose works. If Unit I largely belongs to the category of beautiful essays, then this unit largely belongs to reviews and essays. They are mainly selected from three collections—Standards and Measures, On the Shared Appreciation of Elegance and Popularity, and Shadows of Language and Other Essays. The third unit is on poetics, and the fourth unit is on poems. Mr. Zhu was one of the earliest poets to create new poetry during the May Fourth Movement. He was also skilled in classical Chinese poetry and prosody. He taught poetry at the university as well. His status in the poetic world is widely recognized. Additionally, a few other works were selected. Due to space constraints, works like the insightful monograph On the Purpose of Poetry, which contains many profound insights, were not excerpted and had to be omitted.
