Features: Comic is one of the most active genres in the history of Chinese painting. During the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China, comics had become an independent genre and rapidly developed, appearing in forms such as rapid sketches, allegorical paintings, topical illustrations, humorous pictures, or satirical cartoons. At different times, they reflected various historical backgrounds and social realities. Mr. Ding Song, styled Muqin, was a native of Fengjing, Shanghai, and a renowned painter during the 1920s and 1930s in the Republic of China. He was a central figure and organizer in Shanghai's comic and monthly calendar painting circles, contributing significantly to the early development of comics in China. This comic collection primarily gathers nearly 500 comic strips published by Mr. Ding Song in newspapers during the 1920s and 1930s. In terms of technique, the works mainly adopt traditional Chinese line drawing methods, while their content often reflects the social realities and fragments of daily life through satirical and humorous means. It is a widely acclaimed book with profound meanings and high reference value for painting.
