Features: This book is a fantasy and absurd novel, and also the author's debut work. The novel depicts zoologist Persikov discovering "The Light of Life." However, due to a mix-up, a batch of enormous monster-like pythons, ostriches, and crocodiles were bred. These formidable monsters caused devastating destruction wherever they went, until they approached Moscow. "The Light of Life" turned into "The Light of Death." The book includes the short stories "The Unlucky Egg" and "Dog Heart."
"The Unlucky Egg" describes an animal science professor discovering a special red light. Despite the professor's objections, the director of the state-owned red-light farm suggested the government use the red light to develop the poultry industry. The director was responsible for formulating and implementing the plan, ordering eggs from Germany. However, due to a mix-up, the director received ostrich eggs, python eggs, and crocodile eggs. After being exposed to the red light for several hours, countless enormous ostriches, pythons, and crocodiles hatched and roamed wildly, devouring the director's wife and violently attacking residents before heading toward Moscow, causing nationwide panic. The government deployed troops, police, and aircraft, but none could subdue these monsters. An unexpected strong cold front arrived, and the ostriches, pythons, and crocodiles were finally completely wiped out.
"Dog Heart" is also an absurd and satirical novel. During an organ transplant experiment between humans and dogs, an accidental hybrid creature with a human brain and a dog's heart was created. The creature effortlessly adapted to the violence, pornography, prostitution, gambling, and drug trafficking of the lower social strata, pushing these evils to their extremes. In the end, the doctors had to transplant the dog's brain back into the creature, ending a ridiculous farce.
