Features: Guan Hua, originally named Bao Huapu, was born on December 12, 1921, in Nüguozhuang, Fengrun County, Hebei Province. His father, Bao Zijing, joined the Jidong 200,000 Workers and Peasants Anti-Japanese Uprising in 1938 and served as the Commander of the 7th Division of the 9th Route Army of the Chinese National Revolutionary Army. He led 8,000 local soldiers from his hometown to fight against Japanese invaders before working in the Political Department of the Jidong Military Region of the Eighth Route Army. In autumn 1944, he heroically sacrificed in battle against the Japanese and is buried in the Jidong Martyrs' Cemetery. Guan Hua joined the revolution in 1940. He graduated from the Literature Department of North China Union University in 1942. He served as a member of the 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and was formerly the Vice President and President of the Beijing Writers' Federation, President of the Beijing Lao She Literary Foundation, and President of the Beijing Lao She Research Association. He was a Class 1 Writer. Guan Hua began publishing his works in 1942, including the novels General River and The Abyss, the novella Xin Jun Di, and the collections Guan Hua Short Novels and Stories and Guan Hua Collection. His novella Little Hero Yu Lai and the songs Happy Festival, Our Fields, and Listen to Mom Tell About the Past co-composed with other musicians have been widely sung and have had a broad influence.
