Features: The National English Test Band 8 (NETB8) is a representative exam in China that represents the highest level of English proficiency, requiring test-takers to possess strong skills in listening, speaking, reading, writing, and translation. The new edition of the "Express Pass" series retains the original overall framework, including five specialized practice books (English-Chinese translation, Chinese-English translation, English writing, listening, and reading) and one comprehensive simulation practice book. Among them, the listening practice book and the comprehensive practice book include audio materials. "Express Pass" is primarily designed for English majors in universities at the third and fourth-year levels. However, it is also highly beneficial for a broad readership with intermediate to advanced English proficiency, especially for senior non-English majors in higher education institutions who have passed the College English Test Band 6 (CET-6) and young scholars who have entered the workforce after graduation, as it helps them further improve their English skills. This series is also suitable for TOEFL, GRE, and GMAT test-takers for self-study and improvement. This book is the Chinese-English translation practice book in the "Express Pass" series of NETB8 preparation guides. This textbook is an introductory guide to Chinese-English translation, primarily aimed at senior English majors in universities. It is also suitable for general readers with a certain foundation in English who wish to gain preliminary Chinese-English translation skills through more formal training and lay a foundation for further improvement. The direct goal of this textbook is to meet the Chinese-English translation requirements of the NETB8 exam. This textbook attempts to reflect the following characteristics: 1. Emphasizing key principles, primarily introducing some strategic basic principles and their rationale in Chinese-English translation; 2. Highlighting discourse, with two approaches: (1) In explanations, it emphasizes the importance of addressing local issues within the context of the overall discourse; (2) All practice materials are short essays, and the example sentences used for explanations are mostly derived from these essays, minimizing the use of isolated sentences out of context. 3. The number of words in each Chinese original is indicated to facilitate readers in practicing translation speed. The focus of timed and untimed exercises is slightly different: the former emphasizes both quality and speed improvement, while the latter focuses on meticulous refinement and quality enhancement. The two methods can also be combined, i.e., first timed, then revision. 4. Each exercise's explanation is comprehensive, covering both the difficulties of the exercise itself and the key points of related chapters.
