1. The China Machinery Industry Yearbook is a large-scale, reference-oriented annual publication supervised by the China Machinery Industry Association, organized by the China Machinery Industry Information Research Institute, and published by China Machine Press. It serves as a chronicle of the development of China's machinery industry. As an industrial development report, it integrates industry information and records every stage of corporate growth. Established in 1984, the 2004 edition is the 21st overall issue.
2. The 2004 edition primarily reflects the development status and achievements of China's machinery industry and its various sectors and regions in 2003, providing comprehensive and systematic economic, technical data, and statistical information. In line with industry development needs, the 2004 edition made appropriate adjustments to its columns, adding two new sections: "50 Years of the Automotive Industry" and "Industry Basic Work." In 2003, which marked the 50th anniversary of China's automotive industry and the 20th anniversary of the China Machinery Industry Yearbook's establishment, to more comprehensively and objectively reflect the changes in China's automotive industry and commemorate its 50th anniversary, a special feature section was published, featuring articles written by renowned industry experts. These articles showcased the development achievements and glorious journey of China's automotive industry.
3. Since 1998, the China Machinery Industry Yearbook series has gradually taken shape. To achieve product differentiation between the China Machinery Industry Yearbook and its sector-specific yearbooks and meet the reading needs of professional readers, the 2004 edition introduced 12 secondary columns under the "Industry Overview" section, each focusing on industry summaries, while the original minor industries were categorized as tertiary columns. Industry-specific yearbooks use industry summaries to reflect the overall development of their respective sectors, with more detailed information available in the relevant sector-specific yearbooks. The 2004 edition continued to adopt this classification model.
4. The yearbook collects data nationwide. Over 100 organizations participated in writing the 2004 edition, including the China Machinery Industry Association and major industry associations, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Construction, the Ministry of Railways, the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of Land and Resources, the National Bureau of Statistics, the General Administration of Customs, the China Textile Industry Association, the State Power Corporation, the China Machinery Import and Export Corporation, the China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation, the China Shipbuilding Heavy Industry Corporation, the China Aerospace Technology Corporation, and the China Light Industry Corporation, among others. Additionally, over 30 provincial, autonomous regional, and municipal mechanical industry industry management offices or group investment companies participated, totaling more than 100 units.
5. Statistical data is sourced from the 2003 Industrial Statistical Yearbook of the National Bureau of Statistics and relevant statistical departments of the China Machinery Industry Association.
