Features: To meet the growing demand for English teaching standards in China and facilitate intermediate-level English learners in deeply understanding the original meanings of English vocabulary, as well as gradually developing English thinking through the comparison of Chinese and English definitions, we have compiled this Advanced English-Chinese Bilingual Dictionary. This dictionary is particularly suitable for a wide range of intermediate English learners and middle school English teachers (including those involved in social tutoring) for use in their studies or work. The dictionary is divided into two parts: the main text and appendices. The English vocabulary in the main text is based on the vocabulary specified in the teaching syllabi for middle school and college English, with an appropriate increase in commonly used words and new words. The dictionary includes approximately 20,000 English headwords, along with their derivatives and compound words, totaling over 26,000 entries. The features of the dictionary's word selection are as follows: 1. The word selection range is clear, and among dictionaries of a similar type, it has a relatively large number of entries; 2. The definitions are bilingual (English-Chinese), with concise and easy-to-understand English explanations; 3. The English examples or sentences in the definitions are typical and precise, with accurate and standardized Chinese translations. The dictionary also addresses common difficulties faced by intermediate-level English learners by providing targeted solutions, with carefully planned columns for synonyms, near-synonyms, and language background knowledge, aiming to highlight key areas for users to focus on. To emphasize the role of visual teaching while also keeping the layout lively, the dictionary includes several cartoon-style illustrations, helping readers to deepen their memory and understanding of vocabulary through vivid images. The appendices of the dictionary consist of seven sections: an irregular verbs list, a list of common English names, a list of common world geographical names, a table of numerical expressions, a table of units of measurement, a table of British and American festivals, and a comparison table of the twelve Chinese zodiac signs in English and Chinese. These are provided for users to refer to at any time. During the challenging process of compiling this dictionary, the compilers consulted various versions of similar dictionaries to incorporate the strengths of different sources. We hope this dictionary will help a wide range of users smoothly progress from intermediate to advanced language learning and lay a solid foundation for future language studies.
