Features: Rural governance is a very important issue in China's modernization process, concerning the lives and destinies of 900 million farmers, and is closely linked to the country's stability and development. Since the 1980s, our Center for Rural Issues Research at Central China Normal University has paid close attention to rural governance and made it one of the center's main research fields. This book is a collection of research articles published by the author from 1999 to 2003, mainly divided into four parts: village self-governance, county and township governance, rural development, and political science with China as the focus. In the 1990s, our research focus was primarily on the village. Starting in 1997, with the support of Central China Normal University Press, we published the "Village Governance Series," comprising 10 books. Since the late 1990s, our research field has further expanded, attempting to study rural governance from a broader perspective and deeper level. In the new century, relevant achievements have been published one after another. For this reason, we have prepared the "Rural Governance Series" to integrate these achievements and present them to society. This series continues the empirical research style of the "Village Governance Series," but both in content and methodology, it is richer and more diverse. This also reflects that our research is gradually deepening.
