Features: The writing of Theatre Director's Handbook aims to lay the foundation for the establishment of theatre directing studies and to pave the way for building a teaching system for theatre directing. It adheres to the principle of "equal emphasis," which includes: nurturing people and imparting knowledge, practice and theory, and inheritance and creation. This book follows a quality-oriented education approach based on "three foundations and one creation," which means: through learning basic professional skills, knowledge, and theories, it focuses on enhancing students' artistic creativity, enabling them to develop fundamental qualities as theatre directors. It emphasizes teaching the unique characteristics of theatre, helping students clearly understand and initially grasp the basic principles of theatre stage art and the special laws of theatre directing art. It also adheres to a teaching method that combines theory and practice, inspiring and training students in three types of thinking abilities: dialectical materialist thinking, theatre image thinking, and artistic creative thinking.
The book is divided into three parts and eight chapters, with each chapter essentially representing a course. Part I "Theatre Director's History and Theory," consists of two history and theory courses: "History of Theatre Directing" and "Introduction to Theatre Directing," focusing on teaching the basic theories of theatre directing. Part II "Theatre Director's Fundamentals," consists of three courses: "Theatre Director's Techniques," "Theatre Play and Role Training," and "Analysis of Theatre Plays," focusing on teaching students the basic skills and knowledge of theatre directing and performance. Part III "Theatre Director's Creation," consists of three courses: "Theatre Sketch Training," "Theatre Play Rehearsal," and "Script Analysis and Director's Conception," which primarily aim to cultivate and train students' artistic creative thinking and practical abilities in theatre directing.
According to the writing format of the handbook, these eight courses are combined into eight chapters and written as a whole; however, in teaching, they are conducted as eight separate courses. The three courses in Part III are the main professional courses, spanning four academic years.
