Publish Date: 2005-01-01
Features: This book is a pioneering work in the field of audio recording. In film and television production, "recording" has been expanded to "the art of creative audio production in film and television." The sounds in film and television encompass a wide range of topics, involving both the objective physical properties of sound and its subjective perception. They include not only the artistic conception of sound but also its technical production, as well as the mutual induction and interaction between sound and images, and even a series of issues related to sound aesthetics. Therefore, film and television sound is an interdisciplinary field that combines science, technology, culture, and the arts. It is an independent scientific discipline that spans broad areas such as physics, physiology, psychology, and aesthetics, while also possessing its own unique characteristics. Based on this understanding, the author attempts to integrate and complement the physical, physiological, psychological, and even aesthetic aspects involved in film and television sound creation, aiming to reveal the essence of sound and explore the fundamental content and principles of film and television sound creation. The book is divided into six chapters. In addition to introducing basic concepts and theories, it strives to connect the physical properties, physiological responses, psychological effects, and aesthetic attributes of film and television sound and its elements. It particularly emphasizes the physiological responses, psychological effects, and aesthetic experiences of the audience (the subject) when exposed to sound as a stimulus, especially when it appears in an artistic form. After introducing the objective characteristics, physiological responses, psychological effects, and aesthetic experiences of the various elements of sound, as well as the psychological process of aesthetic appreciation, the book analyzes the basic structure of film and television sound, attempting to explore the fundamental principles of film and television sound creation. This book can serve as a teaching reference for master's students in film and television sound studies at relevant higher education institutions, as well as for audio recording professionals and other practitioners involved in film and television production.
