Features: "These beautiful existences can evoke a unique sense in the eyes of architectural aesthetes. Beyond 'poetic' and 'painterly' charm, they also bring a joy of 'architectural essence.' In the soul of any ancient city gate or a crumbling foundation of a temple, there is an invisible storytelling, even singing, of the unbelievable changes over time—from gentle tales of children to bloodshed. The 'essence' they convey is indeed 'poetic' and 'painterly.' However, architects must solemnly declare that there is an 'essence' beyond this 'poetry' and 'painting.'" These are words from the preface of Architectural Essence by Mr. Liang Sicheng. Indeed, architecture, like painting, music, and other art forms, is a more tangible and spatial art that inherently holds profound meaning, much like 'poetic' and 'painterly' charm. In the heart of Mr. Xiao Mo, the editor-in-chief of Architectural Essence, there has always been a wish: to create a architectural magazine that is not too professional, not too dry, and enjoyable for the general public, allowing them to experience the joy of appreciating architecture while also carrying a lasting academic depth. Xiao Mo said that after careful consideration, we decided to adopt the term 'Architectural Essence' proposed by Mr. Liang Sicheng as the name of the magazine. In reality, it serves as a reminder that architecture is not just the haphazard stacking of bricks, mortar, sand, and stones—it is not merely a material product but also a spiritual one. The profound meaning within it is akin to 'poetic' and 'painterly' charm, though its expression adopts the unique artistic language of architecture. This book focuses on architectural culture, art, and history, introducing world-class architectural masterpieces, evaluating history and the present, and exploring creation and theory. It combines humanity, academia, and art, fully revealing the profound meaning behind the saying, "Architecture is frozen art."
