Features: An excellent enterprise can weather a crisis, an average enterprise may perish in it, and only a great enterprise can develop itself in a crisis. — Andrew Grove, former President and CEO of Intel. The method used by Andrew Grove to avoid disaster during a hurricane is not much different from the one used during a storm or any other event. That is to say, crisis events may vary greatly, but they can be addressed through a set of crisis management procedures and necessary measures. Crisis management is the key to the invincibility of governments, enterprises, and individuals. Crisis has become the norm of our lives, not just an event in our lives. This applies to governments, enterprises, and individuals alike. A country without a sense of crisis will eventually face problems; an enterprise without a sense of crisis will eventually collapse; and an individual without a sense of crisis will inevitably encounter unpredictable misfortunes. In this sense, crisis is a test, and the outcome is either rebirth in the crisis or disappearance in it. In this book, we are not interested in discussing theoretical aspects, but rather aim to raise awareness of crisis management and prevent problems before they occur. We also want to convey the idea that strong defense is the fundamental way to prevent crises. Because while solving problems properly is certainly desirable, eliminating crises in their early stages is truly successful.
Let us begin the journey of this book with two of the three sentences from Wu Bingxin, the former CEO of San Zhu, who spoke after surviving the life-or-death trials of San Zhu: “The best time is the most dangerous time.” I want to share San Zhu’s experiences, lessons, and insights with everyone, hoping to raise awareness of crisis management.”
