Consistent with the original "Journey to the West," "Happy Journey West" praises Sun Wukong's fearless spirit, intelligence, bravery, and perseverance in the struggle. Additionally, it upholds the fairy-tale style of the original, with the 72-transformations of Sun Wukong, the lazy and gluttonous Zhu Bajie, and the gods and demons each showcasing their unique abilities—all filled with magical fantasy. As a New Year's gift book for young readers, "Happy Journey West" remains faithful to the original while presenting a different style from the original's extensive tens of thousands of words. Opening "Happy Journey West," the vibrant, rhythmically-paced cartoon panels, the concise and vivid, highly personalized character designs, and the tightly woven, rich storylines will inevitably bring a smile to the reader's face. More importantly, with the help of colorful illustrations, the book vividly presents the deified characters and environmental descriptions from the original in the eyes of young readers: Sun Wukong in the Flower Fruit Mountain Cave, Red Boy in the Fire Cloud Cave of the Withered Pine Valley, and the Black Fish Demon under the Frozen Tortoise River—all of which will spark strong curiosity and inspire boundless imagination in young readers. In the process of understanding the essence of "Journey to the West," the book fully guides their future interest in reading the original. Currently, the market is flooded with adaptations and abridged versions of classical masterpieces. While preserving the artistic beauty of the original, "Happy Journey West" incorporates modern language and visual elements with a contemporary touch, setting it apart from previous illustrated versions of "Journey to the West." In the author's portrayal, the main characters in the work are "cool" in both appearance and attitude. Even under this humorous and witty packaging, the personality traits of the original characters are fully brought to life through the deepening plot, dynamic illustrations, and highly personalized dialogue and physical actions.
