Features: Organic Chemistry (2nd Edition) was written after the editorial team summarized the experiences and shortcomings of the 1st edition and gathered feedback from institutions that had used the textbook. This edition still focuses on functional groups of organic compounds, with fundamental concepts, basic knowledge, and basic theories of organic chemistry dispersed in the first 10 chapters. The chapters have been appropriately adjusted, content supplemented, and errors corrected. Chapter has added the concept of organic acids and bases. The sequence rules are arranged in Chapter 2, which facilitates systematic nomenclature and stereochemical configuration marking. Chapter 5 on enantiomerism not only introduces the basics of stereochemistry but also emphasizes the relationship between the structure of chiral molecules and their physiological activity and pharmacological effects. The later chapters focus on the material basis of life—compounds such as sugars, lipids, amino acids and proteins, and nucleic acids. A chapter on chemical reactions in the body (brief introduction) has been added to help students understand that only by combining organic chemistry with life sciences can life phenomena be studied at the molecular level. To develop China's natural resources and achieve multi-pathway treatment of diseases by using animal and plant drugs with good efficacy and low toxicity, the chapter on heterocyclic compounds has been supplemented with the content of natural heterocyclic drugs. In view of the rapid development of high technology and its contributions to medicine, Chapter 18, an introduction to life materials, has been supplemented with the content of medical materials and artificial substitutes. This book is primarily intended for use by teachers and students in life sciences and related fields.
