Features: Clinical pharmacology differs from basic pharmacology as an interdisciplinary subject that primarily studies the patterns of drug actions in the human body and the interactions between the human body and drugs. It is based on pharmacology and clinical medicine, explaining the metabolic processes and patterns of drugs in the human body, the effects of drugs on the human body, and the patterns of drug interactions. It provides scientific evaluations of the safety and efficacy of new drugs and adjusts dosing regimens through blood drug concentration monitoring to ensure the rational, safe, and effective use of drugs in clinical practice. Therefore, clinical pharmacology, built upon the foundation of basic pharmacology, focuses on the characteristics of drug actions, combined drug use, and drug interactions in the context of clinical disease features and pathological states of the body. It discusses and evaluates these factors to propose rational drug use plans, which helps cultivate students' comprehensive analytical abilities, better apply their knowledge, and lay a solid foundation for clinical practice and rational drug use in future clinical settings. This textbook, "Clinical Pharmacology," was first published in 1989, followed by a second edition in 2001. In recent years, with the rapid development of clinical pharmacology in China, an increasing number of higher medical colleges across the country have adopted this textbook to teach clinical pharmacology courses. This has positively contributed to improving and cultivating medical students' abilities in clinical evaluation and rational drug use, achieving good teaching outcomes. However, with the rapid progress of the discipline, many contents have become outdated and urgently need updating. In the revision of the third edition, some content has been modified, with the number of chapters increased from 35 to 38, and new content added to many chapters. The third edition of the textbook has been updated and enriched while maintaining the original style. In terms of content selection, it continues to uphold the strengths of the second edition, reflecting the principles of "Three Basics" (basic theories, basic knowledge, and basic skills), "Five Qualities" (ideological, scientific, advanced, inspirational, and applicable), and "Three Specifics" (specific target audience, specific requirements, and specific limitations), while addressing the shortcomings of the second edition. The third edition also adheres to the training objectives of clinical medicine programs. The updated content reflects the cultivation of quality-oriented education, innovative and practical abilities, and meets the needs of the National Medical Examination for Physicians and postgraduate entrance examinations.
