History of Yuan Series

Author: Fang Linggui
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2004-10-01
Features: This book collects twenty of the author's articles on the Yuan Dynasty and one translated manuscript, "Introduction to the Study of the Secret History of the Yuan Dynasty," totaling approximately 300,000 words, titled "Collected Studies on the Yuan Dynasty." Here, I will briefly add a few words to speak for the present. The book "Tongzhi Tiaoge" is of great importance in the study of Yuan history and Chinese legal history. It has been published as "Annotated Tongzhi Tiaoge" (Zhonghua Book Company edition). During the writing process, due to the limitations of the format, some annotations could not fully express the author's intentions and were often summarized as "further examination." The articles included in this book, such as "Personages in Tongzhi Tiaoge: A Comparative Study," "Five Examples of Glosses in Tongzhi Tiaoge," and "Notes on Tongzhi Tiaoge," were written to address this deficiency. As a literary work, Yuanqu does not hold a significant position in the history of Chinese literature. Moreover, as a historical product, it also has its own irreplaceable value in studying the political, social conditions, and language of the Yuan Dynasty. In a broader sense, the study of Yuan history should also give Yuanqu due attention.
