Les Pinter has written 6 books and more than 280 articles on database development. He earned a master's degree from Rice University in Houston, Texas, and completed MBA and doctoral programs at the University of Houston. In 1980, he joined Mike Griffin and Bill Radding at Magic Wand, responsible for sales of the fourth processor for the CP/M operating system, while selling the source code to Bill Gates at the age of 23. A year later, Bill Gates began developing Microsoft Word using this source code. In 1987, while working on a project at Skywalkey Ranch for Rupus Entertainment, he entered the dBASE II and dBASE III database fields before diving into FoxBASE. The magazine he published, Pinter Foxpro Letter, was issued in the U.S. for 10 years and in Russia for 4 years. Les is a contributing editor for Universal Thread Magazine, published in Quebec, Montreal, Canada. He is a member of the INETA Speakers' Bureau and an active speaker on data development in Latin America. In the fall of 2003, Les was elected as a Microsoft Visual FoxPro MVP. Les has actively spoken at academic seminars and conferences on FoxPro and Visual Basic.NET in English, Spanish, French, Portuguese, and Russian. He lives in San Mateo, California, with his wife, Ying-Ying. He is also a private pilot.
