Starting in 1965, the author served as the Party Secretary of the Shanghai Municipal Committee of the CCP. This book, based on his personal experiences, recalls the activities of Jiang Qing and others in Shanghai before the launch of the Cultural Revolution, the events during the Cultural Revolution, particularly the "January Coup" in Shanghai, the author's overthrow and imprisonment for eight years, and his subsequent "liberation" and return to work. In 1975, he was transferred from Shanghai to Beijing.
