Features: This book updates the International Monetary Fund's research on general principles, countermeasures, and technical aspects of systemic bank crisis management, addressing new challenges emerging from recent financial crises. This article updates the IMF's research on general principles, countermeasures, and technical aspects of systemic bank crisis management, in response to new challenges arising from recent financial crises. This work was completed under the leadership of Stefan Ingves, Director of the Monetary and Financial System Department (MFD), and Carl-Johan Lindgren. Based on their extensive experience in the field, they provided academic guidance on the department's work and clarified relevant issues. Some of the material used in this article was initially prepared for the Executive Board in late 2002, and the Basel Bank Supervision Committee's Core Principles Liaison Group discussed it in April 2003. The Executive Directors and IMF staff provided valuable comments on the final draft of this article. This article largely reflects the contributions of the staff of the Monetary and Financial System Department's Banking Systemic Issues Unit.
