Features: The primary technique of Qiu Ying's figure painting is the meticulous brushwork with heavy colors, which has its roots in the Tang and Song dynasties and was further influenced by Du Jin and Tang Yin. Qiu Ying's figure paintings, historical narrative paintings, and portraits of noblewomen exhibit a strong classical tendency. However, under the social conditions of growing commercial economy and flourishing literati painting, his creations underwent dual transformations toward popularization and culturalization, resulting in his works embodying multiple aesthetic tastes. Qiu Ying also achieved remarkable success in landscape painting. Initially, he learned from Zhou Chen, drawing inspiration from the Southern Song imperial academy's landscape painting style. His landscapes feature solid forms, vigorous and unrestrained brushwork, primarily using ink wash with light colors and small green and blue tones. His paintings are diverse and colorful, yet he did not establish a distinct stylistic paradigm. As a result, his artistic influence on later generations is far less significant than that of Shen Zhou and Wen Zhengming. Nevertheless, during his relatively short artistic career, Qiu Ying created a large number of exquisite works and demonstrated unique mastery in the fields of figure painting and green-and-blue landscape painting, surpassing his predecessors and pioneering new styles. His name and artistic talent will shine eternally in the history of painting.
