Gone with the Wind is one of Faulkner's most acclaimed works and an important part of the Yoknapatawpha Saga. The Southern plantation owner McCaslin had a daughter with a slave, who later had a son named Terry with her daughter. Terry later married the slave Caddy, the daughter of another plantation owner, Buckner. Their descendants all took the surname Buckner. McCaslin's granddaughter then married into the Edmonds family. The book tells the complex relationships among the descendants of these three surnames. The most prominent character is Isaac McCaslin, the grandson of McCaslin. He participated in bear hunts from a young age under the guidance of a black hunter, and later grew up to see through the abnormal relationship between whites and black slaves. He voluntarily gave up his inheritance and became a carpenter in town. The book consists of two novellas and five short stories, each part is relatively independent but also integrates together to form a complete picture.
