Application of Case Study Method

Author: Yin
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2004-11-01
Features: As a companion to the book "Case Studies: Design and Methods," this book combines the theory of case study methods and provides readers with "cases" for conducting research using case study methods. These case studies were all conducted by the author herself. To enhance the general applicability of the book, the author did not limit the selection of cases to a specific field but included various aspects of social science research such as education, community development, law enforcement, drug abuse and prevention, corporate transformation, local economic development, and public health. For reading this book, we have two recommendations:
■ Before presenting each case, the author provides corresponding material boxes, which serve as the theoretical foundation for understanding the respective case studies. Therefore, understanding the 22 material boxes in the book is crucial.
■ The varying formats of the case presentations in the book also convey a certain approach to conducting case studies (e.g., the changes in Chapter 5 of this book). Thus, these changes are not optional; readers should understand the significance of these changes.
