When Fengjie learns that Jia Lian has secretly married You Erji behind her back, she becomes furious. Yet she acts out of the ordinary, personally bringing You Erji into the Jia household. Kind-hearted You Erji could never imagine that this is actually a vicious plot! She is about to be pushed into a fire pit, with no escape.
Wenchun's senior maid Siqi falls in love with her cousin Pan You'an and secretly meets him in the garden. They are accidentally spotted by Yuanyang, who takes the opportunity to escape. Siqi is both angry and frightened and falls ill. Yuanyang visits her, urging her to reform and start anew.
The maidservant Simaidai picks up an embroidered pouch with erotic scenes and is seen by Lady Xing. The upper echelons of the Jia household, led by Lady Wang, are all furious and frightened. They secretly conspire to send Fengjie to raid the Grand View Garden at night, leaving the residents unprepared. During the search, Siqi's secret relationship with Pan You'an is exposed, and she is cruelly expelled. Lady Wang also orders the removal of "thorns in her eyes" like Qingwen, who is unfortunately already seriously ill. She dies in resentment, and Baoyu is heartbroken. He writes a eulogy to express his grief.
Xue Pan carefully selects a wife from the summer family, the daughter of a close associate, Jingu, but Jingu is a resentful and troublesome woman. She turns the Xue household upside down, causing Xiangling to lose favor and fall ill in sorrow. Yingchun is married off by her father, Jia She, to the military official Sun Shaozhu. During a family reunion at the Jia household, Yingchun tearfully exposes Sun Shaozhu's countless vices. Hearing this, Baoyu feels even more sorrowful.
