"The Piano Teacher" was published in 1983 and translated into multiple languages for international publication. It was later adapted into a French film, winning numerous awards at the Cannes Film Festival. The novel's psychological portrayal is highly successful, often featuring astonishing descriptions and offering a keen observation of human nature. The genius and unconventional style of the female writer create a dazzling aesthetic effect. The novel narrates the painful journey of a woman named Erika as her mind is twisted and her love life is distorted under the extreme and perverse control of her mother. The book depicts an abnormal mother-daughter relationship, akin to a symbiotic one. Although Erika is in her thirties, she remains under her mother's constant surveillance, unable to step out of bounds, and even has to sleep in the same bed as her mother. Adolescence becomes a "no-go zone," and Erika is forbidden from socializing with outsiders, wearing fashionable clothes, or even getting a pair of high heels. Her inner self has been severely twisted due to long-term suppression. The arrival of Erika's student, Kremperl, breaks the deathly silent and rigid confinement between mother and daughter. Kremperl passionately pursues his female piano teacher, but he finds himself trapped in a terrifying love trap: his mother stubbornly and pervertedly snatches Erika from his hands, and Erika exhibits a frenzied masochistic behavior in her approach to desire. In the end, Kremperl chooses to flee. And Erika begins to break free from her moldy life, trying to reach a distant ray of sunshine.
