Features: The Tonal Solfege Tutor consists of four volumes, all structured around tonality. It begins with atonal modes and progresses through tonal logic based on upper and lower fifth relationships. On the same key signature and tonality, it systematically sets six content areas, adopting a three-dimensional parallel development approach.
1. Major Mode Solfege: Focuses primarily on natural major, while also covering harmonic major and melodic major.
2. Mode Solfege: Parallel minor within the same key signature, including natural minor, with a stronger emphasis on harmonic minor and melodic minor.
3. Chromatic Solfege: Introduces different forms of chromatic notes while maintaining the same mode identity.
4. National Mode Solfege: Based on the same palace system, primarily featuring pentatonic modes, as well as the seven-note modes of Ya Yue, Qing Yue, and Yan Yue.
5. Polyphonic Solfege: Includes both harmonic homophonic textures and contrapuntal/imitative textures.
6. Sight-Singing with Lyrics: Features selected folk songs and songs from both China and abroad, with varying lengths.
The Tonal Solfege Tutor is written in fixed-do notation, but its content is also suitable for teaching movable-do. Most of these solfege pieces, which are valuable for training, are the result of years of teaching by teachers from the Wuhan Conservatory of Music in vocal training and ear training. They include both excellent works by Chinese and foreign composers and diverse folk music from various styles. Through a progressive arrangement from simple to complex, they are designed to better suit both teaching and self-study in solfege.
