Features: This book is written based on the theory and practice of modern control/active cationic polymerization and macromolecular engineering, primarily covering important fundamental theories and application advancements in the rapidly developing field of control/active cationic polymerization over the past two decades. The book is divided into 7 chapters. Chapter 1 compares the differences between uncontrollable cationic polymerization and controllable/active cationic polymerization, introducing the characteristics of controllable/active cationic polymerization. Chapter 2 discusses cationic polymerization systems and the initiation systems matched for different monomers undergoing control/active cationic polymerization. Chapters 3, 4, and 5 respectively elaborate on the methods for achieving controllable cationic polymerization through elementary reactions such as chain initiation, chain propagation, chain transfer, and chain termination, proposing the concept of coordination competition. Chapter 6 employs control cationic polymerization methods to achieve macromolecular engineering, designing and synthesizing side-group functionalized polymers, end-group functionalized polymers, block copolymers, graft copolymers, branched and hyperbranched (dendritic) polymers, as well as polymer networks. Chapter 7 introduces industrialized products synthesized using cationic polymerization methods, including series of polyisobutylene, series of butyl rubber, petroleum resins, polyvinyl ethers, polyethers, and silicone rubbers. This book can serve as a textbook for senior undergraduate and graduate students in universities and colleges engaged in related technical fields, as well as a reference for researchers and technicians in the field.
