Chapter 1 reviews the status of domestic and international research on the relationship between the Naxi and Tibetan peoples and outlines the research objectives, data sources, challenges, principles, approach, and structure of the book.
Chapter 2 explores the ethnic origins of the Naxi and Tibetan peoples from five aspects, based on written materials in Chinese, Tibetan, and Naxi, ethnographic data, archaeological findings, and first-hand survey data. It conducts an in-depth study of the relationship between the two ethnic groups from multiple perspectives, highlighting the connection between them through the ancient Qiang people.
Chapters 3 to 5 systematically examine the relationship between the Naxi and Tibetan peoples and its evolution over more than a thousand years from the 7th to the early 20th century. They discuss the political, economic, religious, and cultural interactions between the two ethnic groups in different historical periods, conduct an in-depth analysis of the integration that occurred between them, and identify the characteristics of their relationship in various periods. The chapters emphasize the profound impact of Tibet's incorporation into the Chinese territory and the continuous deepening of central imperial rule on the relationship between the two ethnic groups.
Chapter 6 serves as the conclusion of the book, summarizing and synthesizing the causes of the formation and development of the relationship between the Naxi and Tibetan peoples, as well as the nature and characteristics of their relationship and its implications.
