Pioneered the concept of the "Wealth Book" for the CET-4. This textbook is part of the "30 Days to Master CET-4" series—Basic Knowledge Edition. It is specifically designed for readers preparing for the CET-4, CET-6, or IELTS exams, or for those with similar English proficiency levels. The book features the following:
1. True 30-day Breakthrough! The 30-day plan in this book is scientifically structured based on a certain amount of learning content, divided into 10 units over 30 days (3 days per unit). After the 30-day review, two self-assessment exercises are provided for readers to summarize their learning. By effectively completing this book, readers can then focus on intensive preparation for the exam, ensuring a smoother passage.
2. Highly Humane Service System The book follows the Ebbinghaus Forgetting Curve to arrange a learning plan for readers. As long as readers strictly adhere to the review schedule, they can guarantee learning effectiveness (see Usage Instructions). At the end of the book, we have prepared a "Wealth Book" for readers to record daily learning insights and key challenges. After completing the book, readers can cut it out and bind it into a notebook for convenient review.
3. Comprehensive and Systematic Content, Authentic Materials, and Logical Arrangement The primary goal of this textbook is to help readers "think in English and solidify their foundation in the language," aiming to improve their language skills comprehensively. Each of the 10 units includes:
- Pronunciation exercises
- Carefully selected reading passages
- A variety of exercises
- Supplementary reading materials such as poems or fables
- A challenging reading article
Additionally, a test is provided after Unit 10 to assess whether readers' language abilities have truly improved. For convenience, the features are detailed as follows:
a. Pronunciation Exercises + Language Preparation
In teaching, we found that many students struggle with "silent English" due to inaccurate or unnatural pronunciation, which greatly hinders deeper language learning and skill development. To help readers correct their pronunciation and enhance their interest and ability in learning English within a limited time, this textbook includes specialized exercises for pronunciation, progressing from easy to difficult, with comparative practice for similar and challenging sounds. This helps readers clearly identify their issues and shortcomings, offering practical assistance in practice. Considering the second part's emphasis on written and oral expression, the language preparation section includes vocabulary exercises or writing practice to prepare students for the related tasks in the second part.
b. Close Reading Passages
The glossary is placed at the beginning of each passage to prevent readers from interrupting their thought process by constantly looking up words while reading. Important sentences and sentence patterns are listed at the end of each passage for repeated practice and memorization, ensuring that readers gain tangible knowledge after each lesson. Subsequently, corresponding oral questions test whether readers have retained the details of the passage, aiming to train comprehension, short-term memory, and oral expression skills. Following this are vocabulary and sentence-level exercises. These exercises are unique, with each of the 10 units designed to minimize repetition while offering a wide variety of practice types to enhance readers' interest in solving problems. The goal is to effectively help readers express their thoughts accurately in both spoken and written English. Finally, discussion questions are provided, which can be addressed through oral discussion in groups or written arguments, further reinforcing the understanding of vocabulary and sentence usage.
c. Poems or Fables
Poems and fables are culturally rich reading materials that reflect various aspects of Western society's thinking and life. Given the current lack of emphasis on literature courses in Chinese universities, the poems and fables selected in this textbook are simple in language but profound in meaning, aiming to help readers appreciate the beauty of Western culture through reading. Each poem or fable is followed by open-ended questions for group discussion or collective classroom discussion.
d. Extensive Reading
The extensive reading section in the latter part is relatively challenging and requires dedicated time and effort to fully grasp its deeper meaning. This is not to make things difficult for readers but to prepare them for the reality that most original materials are often challenging. The exercises for this section are translation from English to Chinese, designed to test whether readers have truly understood and expressed accurately. In addition to listing the glossary at the beginning of the close reading passages (as mentioned earlier), the Chinese translation of the passage is also provided at the end to help readers verify the accuracy of their understanding. All reading passages in this textbook are sourced from original materials or publications such as Time magazine, ensuring authentic and standard language. It can be used with the help of a teacher or as a self-study book, serving both as a tool for oral practice and as a means to improve reading and writing skills.
