Features: The distinctive feature of this textbook lies in its serving as a blueprint for a new model of textbook structure and teaching method reform. To further refine the innovative teaching model embodied in the textbook, the author conducted experiments in the undergraduate law program at Southwest University of Political Science and Law from September 1997 to January 1999. The experiment gradually expanded its scope, involving the use of this new textbook and adopting new teaching methods in classroom instruction. The results demonstrated that the new teaching method not only altered the traditional "cramming" approach in form but, more importantly, effectively motivated students' learning enthusiasm. It transformed them from passive listeners into active self-learners and participants in classroom discussions, shifting them from being objects of instruction to active subjects of learning, and changing their mindset from "I have to learn" to "I want to learn." The teaching content became "lively" due to the adoption of a case-analysis-based discussion format, moving away from abstract theories and rigid legal provisions. This sparked students' strong interest in both the theoretical understanding and practical application of the subject.
Building on these experimental findings, the Ministry of Justice organized a workshop from May 11 to 23, 1998, at Southwest University of Political Science and Law, attended by over 20 law schools (departments) and more than 40 teachers who taught the same course. Through classroom observations and discussions, numerous valuable suggestions were proposed, laying a solid foundation for the revision of the textbook. For this revised edition, the editor-in-chief invited three young scholars—Sun Changyong, Yang Jianchang, and Gao Yifei—to join the revision team. As a result, the names of these three colleagues were added to the list of authors. The revised edition was uniformly edited and finalized by Professor Xu Jingcun, the editor-in-chief.
