White Nights depicts the innocent girl, Nastya, falling in love with her boarder, who promises to meet her on a bridge a year later, but the boarder never appears. The narrator comforts the heroine and accompanies her in waiting for four nights, finally the boarder appears and takes the girl away. The Gambler revolves around a group of gamblers participating in roulette, portraying the life journeys and spiritual states of two generations of Russian landlords and nobles in the 19th century.
