The Chronicles of Kings belongs to the historical genre of the Old Testament. It is generally divided into two volumes, though the original was a single volume, split for convenience. It covers approximately 400 years of history, from the coronation of Solomon, the son of David, to the fall of the Kingdom of Judah. It can be divided into two parts. The first part tells the story of Solomon, the most celebrated king in Israelite history, detailing how he used immense wisdom to unify and strengthen the tribes of Israel, as well as the construction of the Temple of Jerusalem by God. However, in his later years, he indulged in lust, married many foreign women, and introduced foreign gods into Israel, which led to severe punishment from God. As a result, Israel was divided into the northern and southern kingdoms. The second part covers the history of the two kingdoms after the division. Due to their failure to obey God's laws, both kingdoms fell, and their people were exiled to Babylon, marking the beginning of a long period of exile.
